My Website - Lort Smith Animal Hospital

For my non-government organisation, I chose Lort Smith animal hospital. I chose this institution as I believe it is a very worthy organisation. The orientation of Lort Smith is to care for disadvantaged and poor animals. They work entirely off donations and are a non-profit organisation. Not only are they committed to to animal welfare, but they are also devoted to social welfare.

Self Reflection - Tinkercad Toy

Self Reflection
I thought I met the requirements my buddy asked for. She said she was interested in animals and had a dog at home. I decided to make a dog which I hope she will enjoy.

My model did match what I designed too. It was a sturdy model which had a few differences to what I visioned but it still looked very good. Although the model was a little weak, it still matched my expectations and was a very good toy.
If I could do the design again, I would make the model better proportioned. The body was quite large while the head should have been bigger to match. This is only a minor adjustment and is not a big deal.
The hardest part of this assignment was matching all the shapes and aligning them to make a sturdy model. I had to ensure that the model would not break or be off center.
The best part was the finished product. It was great to see my model, which was once only on a computer, as a solid object.
I think this project was a success.

3D Toy - Design Specification

Design Specification

While interviewing my buddy to discover what type of toy she likes, I found out my buddy is interested in lego and animals. She is a year four student and is 9 years old so I will have to make sure this toy is appropriate for her demographic. The successful finished product must appeal to the audience and work as a  great toy.

3D Toy - Design Brief

Design Brief

Our design project was set for us to be creative. Our task is to create an enjoyable toy for a buddy in year four using the 3D printer. We had to interview our buddies and ask them what types of toys they like playing with. My buddy responded to questions such as:
  • What is your favourite type of toy?
  • What is your favourite animal?
  • What are your hobbies?
  • What is your favourite game?
  • What TV shows do you enjoy watching?
I can deduct from these questions that my buddy loves animals and making lego. She also enjoys watching CSI but I was unable to find a suitable toy for that interest. I think I will make a study dog using the 3D printer. My buddy mentioned her pet dog Rex, so I think she will love this toy. I now have enough information to start creating a toy which my buddy will enjoy playing with.

Design Cycle Movie Questionnaire

Design Cycle Film Questionnaire

1.       Did you clearly understand the design cycle and the processes from watching our film?
Yes I did understand the design cycle with the clear animated film.
2.      How easily could you follow the stop animation?
I thought it was easy to follow but the stop animation’s light contrasted heavily throughout the movie.
3.       What would you suggest to improve the film?
You should make the lighting consistent and not too dim.
4.       What would you rate the quality of the film and why?
I would rate it 8.5/10 because I thought the film was really good but let down by the lighting
-                    Luca Simon

1.       Did you clearly understand the design cycle and the processes from watching our film?
Yes I did understand the design cycle because of how it was clear.
2.      How easily could you follow the stop animation?
I could follow the animation but the light was not quit strong enough
3.       What would you suggest to improve the film?
Have a constant light
4.       What would you rate the quality of the film and why?
About a 9 because of how it was easy to follow and it was very clearly written.
-                    James Halliday

1.       Did you clearly understand the design cycle and the processes from watching our film?

2.      How easily could you follow the stop animation?
I could follow it very easily. This animation was very clear.
3.       What would you suggest to improve the film?
Nothing!!!!
4.       What would you rate the quality of the film and why?
100/10
-                    Madison Krapivsky

1.       Did you clearly understand the design cycle and the processes from watching our film? Elaborate.
Yes, and I thought the way it was set out was great and very clear to understand.

The Design Cycle Movie - Design Brief

For our next project, we had to plan what we would do for a short stop animation movie about the design cycle. This was our plan below.

Design Brief
1.     Write down:

·         What you are going to make:

We are going to make an animated short film about the design cycle. This movie will include a teacher who explains to her students about the design cycle.

·         Why you are going to make it:

We are going to make this film to show year 8 students the design cycle to teach them about the steps of designing so they can use the knowledge for the future.

·         For whom you are making it for:

We will be making the film for year 8 students who wish to learn about the steps of designing.
2.    Now combine all of this information into a one paragraph statement. Write your full brief in sentences below:
For our animated film of the design cycle, we will be expressing the steps by making a classroom of students who learn about the design cycle. The teacher will go through the design steps to teach the students the stages of design. This type of short film will have to be appealing to the viewers, year 8. This will be engaging to year 8 as the animation will be cute, simple but sends the message. The year 8 students will learn about the design cycle from this film.

Design Specification

The Design Specification is the most crucial element of the Investigate phase of the Design Cycle.
A good Design Specification should include information that you learned about the task/problem from your research.
It is a list of requirements that your design ideas must meet plus a list of constraints that you have. It is the check list that you need to use when you start to make your design ideas.
Write down:
  1. The Audience- Who you are designing for?

We are designing this animation for year 8 students

  1. Objective - What the successful design must do:

This animation should teach year 8 students about the design cycle

  1. Production -
    • What it should look like (Size/colours/etc)
    • What it should be made from
    • Tools needed to make the product
    • Time needed to complete the product

  1. Usage - How it will be used

Year 8 students will use this to make their projects in design

Life of Pi Animal Animation

Our first design project was all about the design cycle. The design cycle comprised of four steps, investigate, plan, create and evaluate. For my project, my partner and I looked into the design process for animating the animals from Life of Pi.

Life of Pi Animal Animation

Investigate
·         Understand animal behaviour
·         Look at animal physique
·         Make the visual effects alluring
·         Research what appeals to the audience
·         Gather information from the animal experts in order to make the animation seem realistic

Plan
·         Make sure all animals fit in the storyline and act like the actual animal would
·         Use appropriate animation software to make the animals realistic
·         Measure the animals in proportion to the scene and actors
·         Teach actor to react to the animals without actually seeing  them

Create
·         Generate the animals and make sure they fit in the scene
·         Use the animation software to make the animals come to life
·         Make the animals still look as realistic as possible even in 3D (using the Cameron Pace 3D Rig)

Evaluate
·         Animals look realistic and have a normal build
·         Animals behave and react in a normal way
·         See if appealing visual effects was successful
·         Media reviews
·         Popularity
