Game Evolution - Jenga Investigation (Design Specification)

Investigate and Analyse

What did the game originally/still consist of? (pieces / board / cards etc)
Jenga consists of 54 equally sized wooden cuboid pieces which are stacked to create a tall structure. There are 18 levels of 3 blocks placed adjacent to each other and then perpendicular to the previous level. This is to create stability and variation.

2       What is the aim or goal of the game?
The aim is to remove blocks and balance them on the top of the tower, progressively creating a taller, yet less stable structure. The person to remove the block which results in the tower collapsing loses the game.

3       How can this be updated?
Instead of equally sized blocks, the blocks will be a range of different sizes. The base of the tower will have the larger blocks and as the tower elevates, the blocks will progressively become smaller. The players will still place the blocks on the top of the structure which will give it an interesting shape. The aim will still be the same.

4       What’s the game about and how have these things changed in your lifetime?
Modern architecture is unknown to many people. The aim of this updated game is to give people inspiration and help them create their own interesting architecture. It also increases the difficulty of a game which is currently quite simple. It adds another layer to create a more enjoyable game.

Design Brief

The Audience
The updated version of Jenga will be targeted at any people 4+. It will be for kids to inspire them and increase their knowledge of architecture. It will also be more challenging to create a more exciting game.
Objective
The updated game should broaden people’s minds about architecture. People don’t notice that every man made structure has a different twist to it and takes a lot of work. It will also challenge the players instead of having a simple game.
Production
The Jenga game should be aesthetically pleasing. All of the pieces should be different sizes but perfectly measured so they are all the correct ratio. The materials needed will be thick pieces of wood, a scalpel and a ruler. There will also be a box with rules on the side.
Usage

It will be tested as a new game which will offer more challenges to the players. It is more fitting to today’s modern world of architecture.
